Much of this data is actually collected when you browse the Internet. Every second, tens of browser trackers and cookies monitor your behavior and the webpages you visit in order to profile you. This information is often sold to third-parties for targeted advertisement purposes. Well, Firefox 59 will offer users more control over their private data by preventing websites from detecting what webpages you previously visited.

Firefox 59 improves its private browsing mode

As a quick reminder, when you navigate to a new webpage, the respective website automatically receives information about the address of the website that you previously visited. This is called ‘referrer value’. Unfortunately, the referrer value may sometimes reveal sensitive information. To prevent this type of privacy breach, Firefox 59 will delete path information from referrer values sent to third parties when users enable the private browsing mode. In this manner, the referred value will contain only information about the web domain.
