The problem with these devices is that their batteries have the potential to overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard to customers. The company is urging customers to check whether their batteries are affected, and cease to use affected batteries immediately if so. To eliminate all risks, customers may continue to use their notebook computers without the battery installed. You can use HP’s Battery Program Validation Utility to check if your battery is affected. Validation using this utility takes less than 30 seconds. The company has also made public a list of battery bar code numbers for the batteries that may be affected:
